GSB-LTAT-ITF Juniors Grade 4 Nothaburi, Thailand

The tournament entered its fourth day and saw 7 thais, 1 Hong kie, 2 Chinese, 1 australian, Sara Tomic, who happens to be the sister of Bernand Tomic, 1 Japanese, 1 singaporean and Aslina Chua from Malaysia. Aslina managed to outshined the 10th seed, Prajoule Phansri, 6-7, 6-4, 3-1 in the third round.

Nestled in between temples, newly built apartments and condos stands the sprawling 10 acres of the LTAT tennis complex. It was through the New Dehli Jr. Davis Cup/ Jr.Fed Cup 2011 trip had we thought that the All India Tennis complex was good, but the LTAT Tennis complex in Nothaburi was superb. One can walk around and watch tennis bring played at thunderbolt speed by both boys and girls who play in this high performance tournament. More than 200 players from countries such as Japan, Hong Kong, Russia, Chinese Taipei, China, India, Cambodia, Australia, Philippines, France, USA, Singapore and Malaysia took part in this tournament.The two Malaysian angels Aslina and Alyssa filled up the 64 main draw. Both of them were in the main draw. In the opening singles match, Aslina Chua ITF ranked 1054 made short work of Sasipa Permpanichof Thailand ( 1026) , 6-1 6-2. Alyssa Boey ranked 1155 played in mid afternoon could not upstage Chanikarn Silakul of Thailand and lost 6-4 6-3.
 
In the girls doubles, Aslina and Alyssa were defeated by the Thai pair of Momkoonthod and Nakhornkan 6-2 6-2.
 
Meanwhile, in the girls singles second round Aslina earned her 10 ITF points after winning two rounds. And Wednesday, in the quarterfinals will meet the winner of Higashi Ayaka of Japan or Prajoubphansri of Thailand.
 
Against the no.6 seed, Aslina played copy book tennis sending her opponents sprawling all around the court. Definitely Aslina put up a startling performance against the 6 seeded Indian, Aarzoo Malik (ITF ranked 304). Now that Aslina is in the groove, it seems like her next game will spur her to prepare for the second leg at the same place. 

Calling for volunteer ballkid (boys and girls)

In a year, there are at least two international tournaments organize by the Lawn Tennis Association of Malaysia. We require fresh ballkids for these tournaments. Besides gaining experience during matches, the ballkid also have the opportunity to get a closer look at the players they adore. We are now looking for volunteers to feel that experience.

The SCOMI KL Open Tennis Championships 2012

The 5 days Scomi KL Open Tennis Championships came to a close Sunday, June 10, 2012, with Christopher Rungkat, the number one seed from Indonesia outclassed our local hero, Si Yew Ming in less than an hour, with the score 63, 62.

As expected, the seeding in the Men’s Singles was correct when Christopher Rungkat the number one seed, from Indonesia upstaged 5th ranked Ashaari Zainal, 62, 62 in the Semi Finals. In the second Semi Finals,  Ariez Elyaas, seeded second found Si Yew Ming too tough to handle and lost 62, 62. The Finals of the Men’s Singles between Christopher Rungkat and Si Yew Ming shall be played at 3.00pm on Sunday.

With the Championships drawing to a close, the Ladies Singles Final will see, Choo Lyn Yuen of Kuching, Sarawak being challenged by Indonesian, Deria Nur Haliza in the Finals.  In the first  semi finals,  Choo ousted Chutharat Rungtian of Thailand in a hard fought match 61, 26, 75  In the second semi finals saw Deria Nur Haliza downed Yus Syazlin Nabila Yusri of Perlis, 62, 62,

Meanwhile, in the Men’s Singles Quarter Finals, Christopher Rungkat, the number 1 seed proved too strong for Khoo Er Yang, with Rungkat winning easily, 60, 61. Abdul Hazli  Zainuddin was out of steam in the quarter finals and lost to Ashaari Zainal, 57 (Retired) A rejuvenated Si Yew Ming overcame a spirited Syed Agil, 64, 64 to reach the semi finals. Prachya Isarow, winner of the last KL Open could not give his best and succumbed to the number 2 seed, Ariez Elyaas, 46, 60, 21 (rtd). The semi finals lineup is between Christopher Rungkat and Ashaari Zainal and Si Yew Ming against Ariez Elyaas.

In the Men’s Doubles, Christoper Rungkat/ Roy Hobbs beat Ranveer Singh/Ashwani Kumar, 63, 61. Tobias Waldau/Keenan Kam beat Lukman Hakim/Nuriman Hakim, 61, 46 (12-10). Faizal Othman/Mohd Noor Noordin beat Vincent Tan/Chin Yen Tong, 62, 61. Ahmed Deedat/Christian Lee beat Sean Yip/Colin Wong, 75 (5), 61. Ariez Elyaas/Si Yew Ming beat Wan Muiz/Jordan Quek, 61, 62. Khoo Er Yang/Joshua Jordan beat Chia Chen Dong/Low Kar Win, 62, 64. Pearljit Singh/Duzbionjit Singh beat Oscar Chang/Augustine Chang, 63, 64. Syed Agil/Ashaari Zainal beat Anshari Nursida/Ekky Hamzah, 63, 64.

Without doubt the tournament is getting exciting by the day as what the results showed. In the Ladies Singles, there was an upset when the number 2 seed, Alyssa Boey was defeated by Deria Nur Haliza, from Indonesia, in the third round 63, 63. Theiviya Selvarajoo, the number 6 seed beat her counterpart from Selangor, Svea Zuber, 63, 61.  Deria continued her campaign to the Semi Finals by defeating Theviya Selvarajoo, 7-5, 6-3. Ti Jia Wei, number 4 seed, from Pahang fell aside, when she was beaten by Yus Syazlin Nabila, from Perlis, 63, 63. Nurin Nabila Roslan of Sekolah Sukan Bukit Jalil, number 7 seed found the going though against Chutharat Rungteinwhen from Thailand and lost, 36, 16. The last Quarter finals match of the Ladies Singles saw number 1 seed, Choo Lyn Yuen, WTA player from Kuching, Sarawak outlast Archnaah Rajan of Kuala Lumpur, 63, 61.
