The SCOMI KL Open Tennis Championships 2012

 

Christopher Rungkat, the number 1 seed, from Indonesia began his campaign to lift the newly design KL Open trophy, made short work of Deveshwar Swam of Selangor, 60, 60 in the first round today. We were told personally by Rungkat that in his earlier age, he played tennis but later turned to soccer where he was chosen to play for the Indonesian under12 soccer team. This decision made his mom, a tennis player herself flabbergasted and Rungkat turned back to tennis. He has never looked back since. He enjoy the tournament here in Kuala Lumpur and hopefully emerged as champion before heading to Holland to play in the Futures and then head for Wimbledon to play in the qualifying round.

Prachya Isarow, the defending Champion from Thailand, unseeded this time, defeated a qualifier, Isrusli Ismail, from Negri Sembilan, 60, 60 and advanced to the second round.

Meanwhile, the number 2 seed in the Men’s singles, Davis Cupper, Aries Elyaas received a walkover from Mohd Zaki Kamarudin from the Navy. Si Yew Ming, ranked third, disposed of a Qualifier, Amir Rafidz, 60, 60. Ming will next face, Rohaizat Acop. 4th seed, Abdul Hazli Zainuddin made short work of Lokman Hakim from Johor, 61, 62 and now meet Sheikh Ameer Sheikh Ahmad in the second round.

Meanwhile, at the Titiwangsa Courts, Choo Lyn Yuen the number 1 seed in the Ladies Singles from Kuching, Sarawak advanced to the third round after defeating Hayati Hassan in the second round. Choo will face Samantha Jane of Selangor, in the third round. Alyssa Boey, the number 2 seed  also advanced to the third round after disposing of Nur Farhana Mohd Yussof of Perlis, 60, 60.

Play will continue on tomorrow at both venues, beginning at 0900 Hrs.
