The SCOMI KL Open Tennis Championships 2012

Without doubt the tournament is getting exciting by the day as what the results showed. In the Ladies Singles, there was an upset when the number 2 seed, Alyssa Boey was defeated by Deria Nur Haliza, from Indonesia, in the third round 63, 63. Theiviya Selvarajoo, the number 6 seed beat her counterpart from Selangor, Svea Zuber, 63, 61.  Deria continued her campaign to the Semi Finals by defeating Theviya Selvarajoo, 7-5, 6-3. Ti Jia Wei, number 4 seed, from Pahang fell aside, when she was beaten by Yus Syazlin Nabila, from Perlis, 63, 63. Nurin Nabila Roslan of Sekolah Sukan Bukit Jalil, number 7 seed found the going though against Chutharat Rungteinwhen from Thailand and lost, 36, 16. The last Quarter finals match of the Ladies Singles saw number 1 seed, Choo Lyn Yuen, WTA player from Kuching, Sarawak outlast Archnaah Rajan of Kuala Lumpur, 63, 61.

The semi finals see Choo Lyn Yuen lock horns with Chutharat Rungtien and the other semi finals is between Yus Syazlin Nabila and Deria Nur Haliza of Indonesia.

Meanwhile, in the 4th round of the Men’s Singles, Christopher Rungkat the tournament marquee player continues with his ambition to win this tournament by beating Oscar Chang, number 15 seed from Sarawak, 61, 62. Khoo Er Yang from Negeri Sembilan won on default over Sebastian Geigle. Abdul Hazli Zainuddin, a former Davis Cupper outclassed Roy Hobbs of Singapore, 76(3) 62. Wan Abdul Muiz, the number 10 seed was beaten by number 5 seed, Ashaari Zainal, 61,64. Meanwhile, Syed Agil was too strong for Indonesian, Irfandy Hendrawan when the former won, 64, 62. Si Yew Ming, the number 3 seed had it easy when he received a walkover from Low Kar Win. Ariez Elyaas also made his way through to the quarter finals by beating 13th seed, Chin Yen Tong, 63, 60. The order of play for the quarter finals will pit Rungkat against Khoo Er Yang, Abdul Hazli faces Ashaari Zainal, Si Yew Ming challenged by Syed Agil and the last quarter finals slot is between Ariez and Prachya Isarow who defeated Ahmed Deedat, 64, 64.

Other events contested are Men’ Doubles, Ladies Doubles, Men’s Masters – Singles and Doubles and Men’ Veterans, Singles and Doubles.
